Painting in the time of COVID-19

Well, 2020 has been a year like no other!  Lockdown was an unpleasant experience as I was unable to see friends and family.  And, of course, I missed the chance to paint with friends.  One regular event that normally runs from spring – autumn are weekly painting days with the Wapping Group of Artists.  But, unable to physically meet to paint together, we reverted to a virtual paint each week.  A venue was chosen and information from photographs taken on previous visits and/or sketchbook drawings completed at the site were used to help our work.  This method presented some challenges and is certainly not the best way to paint as we are primarily a plein air group.  However, circumstances dictated this was all we could do and some interesting work was completed.  For a selection please see our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/wappingart/.

With the easing of restrictions we are now back again, meeting weekly at a venue of our choice. Regular updates are posted on my Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/paulbanningartist/.

First blog – welcome to my new website!

For years I hadn’t bothered with much of an online presence, opting for a simple portfolio site with a few examples of my work and relevant contact details. However, having used Instagram for the past couple of years as a way to showcase existing and new work I have been amazed and heartened by the online response and many requests from people to buy my paintings. My back-catalogue has grown and I am keen to sell as much as I can as I enter the next phase of my career.

So, it is with some trepidation (in the strange COVID-19 times we are living in) that I launch my site. There is a Gallery page of paintings that have already sold and my online Shop containing many paintings previously exhibited in galleries. The shop will be regularly updated. It includes paintings ranging in size and price from large imperial framed (and glazed) watercolours down to small, unframed oils painted on board. The prices range appropriately but for all are much reduced.

I will be updating my Blog regularly with images and paintings that I am working on so please check regularly. And do follow me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/paulbanningartist/.

Before I sign off, a word about delivery of paintings during the current Coronavirus pandemic. Realistically, it will not be possible to despatch paintings during the lockdown restrictions. As soon as I am able to get to my storage facility safely then I will be able to send out purchased work. Stay safe and keep well!
